I have a school project and need to find out what type of gladiator Maximus is|||According to this site "The movie depicts the gladiator Maximus fighting as types of gladiators called Provocatores would have fought. Provocatores were recognisable by their armor and weapons and were the only types of gladiators to have effective protection for the upper body in the form of a rectangular breastplate."

Maximus was bought off by a gladiator manager named Proximo from the slave traders that found him while he was unconscious. Maximus was once a roman official leading soldiers of the roman army to a decisive victory against the germanic barbarians. that makes Maximus a "roman" gladiator i guess.
