Older movie with Christopher Reeve using different name in a sci fi gladiator type movie?

Movie takes place in future in outer space and he is forced to take role of gladiator of sorts. There is a cook who is his friend. Think this may have been early movie and he used different name. If not could it be a brother? This has been driving me nuts because I found it once then lost ir.|||Reeve made no such film.

His brother, Benjamin, didn't go onto acting.|||Found it...I was looking for it to. I believe the movie may be called Arena? Came out in 1989
